Andi Ashworth by her cookbooks

Andi Ashworth

A native Californian, Andi Ashworth has lived in Nashville, Tennessee since 1989. She’s a writer, gardener, cook, diarist, grandmother, and lover of books and conversations.

Andi is the author of Real Love for Real Life: The Art and Work of Caring. A much-loved book, Real Love for Real Life continues to have impact at the intersection of theology, hospitality, creativity, and vocation. Her latest book, Why Everything That Doesn’t Matter, Matters So Much: The Way of Love in a World of Hurt, was co-authored with her husband, music producer Charlie Peacock. The book is a collection of letters to the reader from Andi and Charlie, each writing about subjects near and dear to their hearts—cooking, writing, music, marriage, the artist’s role in the world, hospitality, and more. Andi is also a contributor to Wild Things and Castles in the Sky: A Guide to the Best Books for Children and A Book for Hearts and Minds: What You Should Read and Why.

In 1991 Andi cofounded The Art House with her husband—an organization designed to promote Christian discipleship and imaginative living, the worth and necessity of all vocations, and the promotion of people and earth care—in short, what the Ashworths call “the artful, faithful life.”

The Art House org was a place as well—a century-old, renovated country church that became their family home, recording studio, and community gathering space. Andi served through hospitality, mentoring, and as Editor-in-Chief of the Art House America Blog. The blog is a literary labor of love shared with editors Jenni Simmons and Jennifer Strange (please avail yourself of the many articles and essays posted at the site). The Art House movement that began in Nashville has grown to include Art House Dallas and Art House North (St. Paul, MN).

Andi holds a Master of Arts in Theological Studies from Covenant Seminary in St. Louis and is a University of Tennessee certified Master Gardener. She’s written for Comment, Critique, By Faith and The Washington Institute for Faith, Vocation and Culture, among others. Andi has presented at various gatherings around the country, including Laity Lodge in Texas, Jubilee Conference in Pittsburgh, Art House Dallas Writer’s Workshop, Imago Dei Women’s Forum in Portland, Oregon, and the Art/Music/Justice conference in Falls Church, Virginia.

Daily writing, long and deep friendships, gardening, Anglican fellowship, people care, Gilmore Girls binging, and her family define her ethos and praxis, her joy and treasure.
